Founder · Direct Intelligence Ltd

Gary Daniel Doran.

Founder of Direct Intelligence and author of the DIRECT framework — the decision architecture beneath every engagement the firm undertakes.

The Founding Mandate

Gary Daniel Doran founded Direct Intelligence around a recurring observation. From over thirty years in commercial environments, across sales leadership, strategic consulting, and institutional advisory, the same pattern recurred: organisations with genuine technical capability, real credentials, and sound commercial propositions failing to secure institutional mandates — not because their offer was wrong, but because they did not understand how the decision on the other side of the table was actually being made.

In critical national infrastructure, the organisations that lose institutional pursuits do not typically lose them on capability. They lose because they have not mapped the decision environment they are entering — the institutional authority structure, the political dynamics, the risk thresholds, the trust architecture that CNI procurement decisions require. Direct Intelligence was founded to build that understanding and to deploy it.

Biography

Gary Daniel Doran, Founder of Direct Intelligence Ltd

Gary Daniel Doran has spent over thirty years in commercial and institutional environments. His background spans sales leadership, strategic consulting, digital media, and institutional advisory across multiple sectors.

He is the author of the DIRECT framework (Doran Integrated Rational-Emotional Cognitive Theory) and its constituent frameworks: PEACE, BRIDGE, STAIRCASE, and Spectrum.

Gary is pursuing an academic trajectory toward a PhD in decision architecture. His research interests span decision science, behavioural economics, and institutional governance in regulated environments. He is the publisher of ICDM (Institute of Critical Infrastructure Decision Making) and The Signal, and the author of the six-volume Decision Architecture Series and an extended programme of publications under the ICDM imprint.

Founder's Statement

Thirty years of commercial and advisory practice led to one observation. The organisations that consistently win key supply and service agreements in regulated environments are not the most technically capable — they are the ones that understand how decisions are actually made inside the organisation they want to work with.

Often, that understanding is not due to instinct or good fortune. It can be built, it can be systematised. DIRECT is the result of that observation.
